Dr.
Suma Athreye,
Adjunct Fellow
Dr.
Suma Athreye is Reader in International Business at Brunel
Business School, Brunel University, Uxbridge. She obtained her doctoral
degree from the Science Policy Research Unit (SPRU) at the University
of Sussex, UK, and completed a post-doctoral fellowship at the Centre
for Business Research, University of Cambridge. Prior to joining Brunel
University, Dr. Athreye taught at the Manchester School of Management,
UMIST and with the Economics Department, Open University, UK.
Her current research interests are related to the growth of international
licensing and outward FDI as alternative modes for the international
exploitation of technology by firms. She examines this issue from
two perspectives: from the perspective of the globalisation of innovation
by incumbent firms and from the perspective of the non-incumbent firm
wishing to commercialise its technology capability and build international
scale in order to do so. She has studied the software industries in
India and the UK extensively. Her previous research has studied the
emergence of technology markets and their implications for the strategies
of small firms and regional growth.
