South Asia Workshop on Trade and Environment

 

RIS organised the "South Asia Workshop on Trade and Environment" in New Delhi on 31st October and 1st November, 2000. Shri K.C. Pant, Deputy Chairman Planning Commission and Chairman, RIS inaugurated the workshop. Dr. Y.K. Alagh delivered the Keynote Address. The workshop was the part of the international research project on "The Impact of Enchancing Environmental Standards on International Trade of South Asian countries", sponsored by the Perez-Gurerrero Trust Fund of G-77. Selected experts from the nodal institutions of the SAARC member countries presented the country papers on different themes of the workshop. A large number of distinguished scholars from different research institutions, senior government officials, and representatives from business and industry circles from India participated in the deliberations of the workshop.

The second workshop under RIS project entitled “The Impact of Enhancing Environmental Standards on International Trade of South Asian Countries” was organized on 22nd March, 2002 in New Delhi  to discuss the interim report of this PGTF/G-77 Shri Shashank, Secretary (ER), Ministry of External Affairs inaugurated the Workshop.  Dr Veena Jha, UNCTAD, New Delhi delivered the keynote address on “Trade and Environment: Emerging Challenges for Developing Countries and Policy Options”.  Shri V.S. Seshadri, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Commerce made his remarks at the Workshop. The workshop covered presentations of the country studies from six South Asian countries. A number of senior officials from concerned Ministries and experts participated in the workshop.
