Amol Baxi is Visiting Fellow at RIS since January, 2024. He holds a Master's in Finance and Control (MFC) from University of Delhi and has long-standing work experience in the financial services sector. Since 2020, he has increasingly focused on research and writing in the areas of Law & Finance (intersection), Distress, and Insolvency.  His research primarily aims to analyze insolvency laws (including in the context of IBC, India), their various dimensions, and their linkages with credit markets and development. His research aims at enhancing research, practitioner, and policy perspectives to achieve improved effectiveness/working of bankruptcy laws. He has also been pursuing his Doctoral research and has submitted his thesis in the insolvency domain.

At RIS he primarily focuses on insolvency laws in the context of Global South (GS), and International Trade. His primary focus has been on examining whether India’s experience in insolvency laws can be a model for the GS. He also examines linkages of Insolvency laws to International Trade including identification of areas of potential cooperation (from the GS perspective). His current thrust areas include broadening the research scope within the domain by introducing additional dimensions of analysis relevant to the RIS work programme, while also continuing research focus on improving the effectiveness of insolvency laws.

He has contributed research papers to peer-reviewed journals and more recently to discussion papers at RIS.

He has also contributed opinion pieces to newspapers including The Hindu, The Hindu Businessline, and Millennium Post.
